Positive talks on Chalet’s future

A meeting to discuss community objectives and principles for consideration in tender documentation for the Mount Buffalo Chalet was held in Bright on Tuesday 14 July.

“The meeting had a good cross section of local interest groups, which included some members of the former Mount Buffalo Community Reference Group, Alpine Shire, local business operators, Alpine Regional Tourism Board, Friends of Mount Buffalo and local Parks Victoria managers,” said Graeme Baxter, Acting Chief Ranger.

“The aim of the meeting was to revisit the Draft Development Principles and Community Objectives developed for Mount Buffalo in 2007 and to ensure that they were still relevant. That we were able to achieve this with minimal changes is a testament to the solid work done by the previous reference group.

“It was agreed at the meeting that the original objectives are still valid, though needed refinement to meet future market demands for Mt Buffalo as a tourist destination.

“This is an important step in the process to re-open the Chalet since Parks Victoria resumed the lease in May. I look forward to a positive relationship between Parks Victoria, a new lessee and the local community, working together to achieve the best outcome,” he added.
