Water inflows into Snowy Scheme storages for April and May, while slightly improved from the previous three months, were still below average, Snowy Hydro said today.

“Overall, our water position for the year remains well below average and storages continue to be at very
low levels as a result of the major drought that continues to impact the region,” the company said in a statement.

“The current water levels in Lake Jindabyne will not have any affect on town water supplies or environmental releases into the Snowy River and are now expected to stabilise at around their current level.

“It is expected that water levels in Lake Eucumbene will continue to drop over June, to levels similar to the same time last year, as Snowy Hydro meets its water licence and electricity obligations.

“Water levels in Lake Eucumbene are expected to stabilise in July with the usual seasonal improvements in inflows starting to occur across all Snowy Scheme water storages in winter and spring.”

Prior to the commencement of the removal of the coffer dam, Snowy Hydro is undertaking some routine maintenance work on the discharge valves and intake structures at Jindabyne Dam.

In order to maintain water releases into the Snowy River during this work, an alternative water delivery system (Siphon) is operating.

There has been some interruption to water releases via the siphon which has resulted in a temporary
reduction in releases into the Snowy River.

The siphon is now fully operational and flows are returning to normal.

Local residents and landholders downstream on the Snowy River will notice a temporary drop in river levels and it is anticipated that river levels will return to normal within the next three to four days.

This temporary disruption to flows in the Snowy River should not affect town water supplies or achievement of monthly environmental release targets.
